The G15 Residents Group submits recommendations ahead of the Autumn Budget

"The Autumn Budget must save our Social Housing System - not just manage its decline".

The G15 Residents’ Group (G15RG), the voice of residents living in homes provided by London’s largest housing associations has submitted its views ahead of the Autumn Budget.

The group calls for urgent action to protect and invest in the social housing system, which is under growing pressure.

G15RG highlights three key priorities:

  • Decent Homes Backlog
Persistent issues like damp, mould, and inefficient heating are widespread. G15RG calls for a ring-fenced capital fund for Decent Homes Standard 2.0, focused on damp prevention and energy efficiency. Poor housing costs the NHS £1.4 billion annually - investment now will save public money later.
  • Supply Crisis
Temporary accommodation is rising, and affordable housing at 80% of market rent is out of reach for many. G15RG welcomes the Government’s new programme, but urges an increase in the social rent target to 75% alongside grant funding for all regeneration homes and low-interest loans to support delivery.
  • Protecting Affordability
Housing-related benefits must keep pace with rising rents. G15RG calls for uprating housing benefit, restoring Local Housing Allowance (LHA) to the 30th percentile, and reviewing the benefit cap to ensure affordability and financial stability.

The G15RG is ready to work in partnership with government to ensure policy is shaped by lived experience, and to secure safe, affordable homes for future generations.
