G15RG responds to the MHCLG's Consultation on a Reformed Decent Homes Standard

The G15 Residents’ Group, representing residents from London’s largest housing associations, welcomes the government's proposed reforms to the Decent Homes Standard (DHS). 

The group strongly supports expanding the DHS to cover both social and private rented homes, especially given the poor conditions often found in temporary accommodation. 

They stress the need for adequate funding, clear communication, strong accountability, and for Resident-led groups to be central to monitoring progress and ensuring meaningful improvements are made in housing quality.

G15 members fully support the Government’s ambition to improve energy efficiency in social housing. Upgrading homes is already part of our plans, alongside efforts to cut carbon emissions, reduce fuel poverty, and enhance resident comfort. Aligning MEES with the Decent Homes Standard by 2037, backed by stable funding will help to ensure that delivery is ambitious, efficient, and fair for residents. Read our full submission here.
