G15 Responds to the MHCLG's consultation on How to Implement Social Rent Convergence

Following the Spending Review, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has launched a consultation on how to implement Social Rent convergence as part of the government’s 10-year rent settlement for social housing, with the aim to address historic variations in social rent levels. This consultation follows a previous one held in 2024 on the future of social rent policy.

G15 welcomes the Government’s recognition of the importance of rent convergence in restoring the social housing sector’s financial capacity and in addressing long-standing inequities in the rent system. Reintroducing rent convergence is essential to ensuring fairness for residents and stability for providers, which are critical in the face of growing regulatory requirements, inflationary pressures, and acute housing need.
