The G15 Residents’ Group has responded to the Regulator of Social Housing’s call for evidence on More and Better Social Homes, supporting efforts to increase the supply of social housing while calling for stronger protections for existing residents and homes.
The response welcomes the ambition to deliver more genuinely affordable homes, while stressing that housing providers must balance new development with investment in existing homes, financial resilience and the quality of services residents receive.
In its submission, the Group said:
“A financially sustainable housing association is important, but so is a financially sustainable household.”
The Group calls for greater transparency and accountability in regulatory decisions, stronger consideration of resident experience and more meaningful involvement in governance, investment priorities and service improvements.
It also urges the Regulator to strengthen its focus on organisational culture, local service performance and resident outcomes, ensuring that housing associations remain accountable to the people and communities they serve.
