The G15 Residents’ Group has submitted evidence to the National Audit Office’s study into the quality of existing social housing in England, calling for greater resident involvement, sustained investment in existing homes and stronger accountability across the sector.

The response recognises the progress made through recent regulatory reforms, while highlighting ongoing challenges around housing quality, financial pressures and the gap between reported performance and residents’ lived experiences. It stresses that improving housing standards requires investment in homes, effective leadership and a culture where residents can influence decisions.

In the response, the group said:

“Housing quality improves where residents help shape decisions from the outset.”

The Group calls for resident experience to become a core measure of housing quality, alongside stronger transparency around investment decisions, better use of resident feedback and greater involvement in shaping services and policy.
